The Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful and important buildings in the city and in the country. It was built based on the projects made by Francisco de Oliveira Passos and Albert Guilbert, separately. Building started in 1905 and finished in 1909. The theater went through some changes over the years. In 1975 the theater was closed for restoration and modernization of its facilities, it was reopened in 1978. In 1996 an annex building was constructed due to several rehearsals of the many plays that are performed there. In 2009 the theater was closed in order to make some improvements to celebrate the theater’s centenary. Besides the restoration some technological innovations were also made. It was reopened in May 27th, 2010.

El teatro municipal de Río de Janeiro es uno de los edificios más hermosos y más importantes de la ciudad y del país. Fue construido basó en los proyectos hechos por Francisco de Oliveira Passos y Albert Guilbert, por separado. El edificio comenzó en 1905 y acabó en 1909. El teatro pasó a través de algunos cambios durante los años. En 1975 el teatro era cerrado para la restauración y modernización de sus instalaciones, fue abierto de nuevo en 1978. En 1996 un edificio del anexo era construido debido a varios ensayos de los muchos juegos que se realizan allí. En 2009 el teatro era cerrado para llevar a cabo algunas mejoras para celebrar el centenario del teatro. Además de la restauración algunas innovaciones tecnológicas también fueron hechas. Fue abierta de nuevo en el 27 de mayo de 2010.
