The church of light

In projects like the church of light in 1989 by Tadao Ando we can see the combination of material and sun light in its most spectacular way. The church, situated in Ibaraki (a neighborhood in Osaka, Japan), has a modest appearance. From the outside, we can observe a plain box made of concrete; the only religious sign is the Cross made of steel. In the inside, on the other hand, the relation between the concrete and the light creates an atmosphere of complete serenity. The accuracy with witch the big Cross, created by the separation of the four panels of concrete, matches with the joint of the laterals panels shows the attention that Ando pays to the details. We see how the material side and the immaterial part are joined to create something that transcends from the purely physic side of the space.
